The Joye Pavilion, in front of which the proposed shading structure will be placed, experiences significant summer overheating, primarily caused by the south-facing classroom windows. This overheating is also felt in the playground, which is currently dominated by hard surfaces.

The main objective of the shading structure is to provide shade over the windows, thereby preventing direct sunlight from entering the classrooms, particularly during the summer months. As a result, this intervention will also enhance the comfort of children in the playground by offering a new planted shaded area. Vegetation around the new structure will help create a small cool microclimate between the buildings and the grassy strip that borders the playground on the field side.

The shape of the structure is the result of careful consideration of light and shade conditions during the summer, while still allowing natural light into the classrooms during winter. The metal structure is designed as a playful assembly of standard profiles bolted together, creating a light and playful presence, resonating with early childhood—ultimately resembling a large, balanced chair.
