The Hameau des Maltournées project is set within a landscape defined by large traditional farmsteads, strategically positioned to serve their functions while adapting to the rolling hills of the Jura range.
This vernacular principle is reinterpreted by proposing not a single, monolithic volume—which would distort the landscape—but three independent buildings, embedded into the sloping terrain and opening outward to meet users’ needs.
Each of these generous spaces is topped with roofs whose ridge lines run parallel to the long façades, echoing the form of maltournées barns. The surrounding outdoor areas are broken down into distinct zones that follow the natural topography.
The structural concept is designed to align with local wood production and supply conditions. Glued-laminated timber is deliberately avoided in favor of built-up nailed timber trusses, minimizing the amount of wood used while creating open, airy spaces that support a high-quality working environment.
