The proposed Galeries du Lac project for the new library seeks to reconcile heritage preservation with contemporary intervention, while ensuring spaces that foster interaction—both within the building and at the urban scale.

While the original brief placed young children in the attic and archives beneath the esplanade, the project proposes to invert these programs, thereby creating an urban connection between the street and the lake through a subterranean space illuminated by organic patios.

The new Neuchâtel Library can thus become an emblematic building for the city and the region—a gallery open to the future.
